KOMO’s loss is NBC’s gain. This from Morgan Chesky:

Damn, this is real.

An incredible professional opportunity has presented itself and I find myself at a loss for words (pretty unusual for me). Some might call it writer’s block or maybe a bad case of nerves. I call it a realization that nothing in life prepared this Kerrville kid for what to say when one of his dreams comes true.

So, here goes.

Starting this December, I will join NBC News as a national correspondent. The move fulfills a goal that felt too ambitious to say out loud. Honestly, the hope started at my grandparents’ dinner table where I grew up watching Tom Brokaw.

This November, I leave KOMO News, a station that places a priority on its people, who in turn produce some of the finest journalism in the country. I’ll miss the camaraderie, the contagious rush of breaking news, and conversations shared over the (occasional) post-shift cocktail. Put simply, without the guidance of my KOMO colleagues, I would not be about to join NBC’s talented team.

The work won’t be easy. Nothing rewarding ever is. I’m excited for the challenge and find comfort knowing so many of you have placed your confidence in me; please know your trust is the highest compliment. I promise to always bring you both sides of the story, ask tough questions, and when covering storms only brace myself when I’m about to be legitimately blown off the face of the Earth.

As I look to my future with NBC I find myself reflecting on the words of my old high school football coach. Mark Smith taught his Tivy teams a simple code to live by. I admit, I sometimes fall short, but always return to: Honor your faith, make your parents proud, and leave it all out on the field.
