July 6, 1969 – Tom Murphy held a press conference, because, “Everyone else can do it, why not me?” Eventually, it led up to a tearful announcement that Murphy would resign from the KJR basketball team rather than sever relationships with “several unsavory friends.” Now that Murphy is back at the KJR microphone, perhaps he will name some of those “unsavory friends” he took up with while on vacation in Los Angeles.

Since the introduction of ABC Radio’s Entertainment Network on KIXI, there are at least nine spots on the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett radio dial where one ABC network or another can be heard.

With the departure of the Dolly Holiday midnight to 6 a.m. music show on KIRO AM, the Hit Parade ’69 format is being simulcast for folks with AM radios. KIRO is looking for a live record show host to fill that all-night slot. Until then, the simulcast offers pleasant listening of the kind that most radio stations attempt to imitate– a minimum of chatter, loads of carefully selected pop music.

Sometimes facing a microphone is a scary thing. But George Toles, KIRO AM announcer, made an interview pleasant when speaking with Miss Seafair, Karen Brown, last week.
“Gee,” Miss Brown said, after the show, “I felt so much at home I could have kissed you.”
“It’s not too late, is it?” the happily married red-haired disc jockey asked.
