  • My parents friends, the Adams' moved from San Francisco to Seattle in 1949. Bill loved radio and in the evening from their Ravenna Park home (which later I purchased), Bill listened to Ira Blue. I was hooked at about 13 or so and with my trusty Arvin 5 tube radio, in the mid 60's I would tune into KGO and KNBR from Lynnwood. Before the days of wall worts, LED city lights with tons of noise, AM DX' ing at night was a great past time.

I went to grad school at Stanford and on occasion would visit KGO studios and the transmitter site.

Bill Wattenberg, another scientist that I admired had a wonderful evening program. All of that is gone. Change is inevitable, but not welcomed.

Anyone remember Irving Clark on KING (AM)? Mutual 2-5080 Clark on KING!

    • In 1965, KNBR 68 boomed in between about 4:30 and 6:00 P.M. Mike Phillips was doing afternoons after leaving KJR.

  • I remember being able to get KGO usually picking them up about 8-8:30 pm from Tacoma. Thought it was strange to be able to receive a SF station. Memories.
