My parents friends, the Adams' moved from San Francisco to Seattle in 1949. Bill loved radio and in the evening from their Ravenna Park home (which later I purchased), Bill listened to Ira Blue. I was hooked at about 13 or so and with my trusty Arvin 5 tube radio, in the mid 60's I would tune into KGO and KNBR from Lynnwood. Before the days of wall worts, LED city lights with tons of noise, AM DX' ing at night was a great past time.
I went to grad school at Stanford and on occasion would visit KGO studios and the transmitter site.
Bill Wattenberg, another scientist that I admired had a wonderful evening program. All of that is gone. Change is inevitable, but not welcomed.

KGO and KNBR, and KKHI up at the far end of the dial.
In 1965, KNBR 68 boomed in between about 4:30 and 6:00 P.M. Mike Phillips was doing afternoons after leaving KJR.
I remember being able to get KGO usually picking them up about 8-8:30 pm from Tacoma. Thought it was strange to be able to receive a SF station. Memories.
I listened to full-service KGO from our house in north Seattle at least seventy years ago. It boomed in like a local after sunset.
