Ted Gorden Smucker (Facebook) WCFL page
Attention all my WLS and WCFL radio friends. There is a two-part DJ Hall of Fame salute airing March 7th and the 14th. This month marks 50 years since Chicago radio station WCFL gave up their battle with WLS and made the way for ‘Beautiful Music’. That format change has gone down as one of the biggest flops in contemporary radio history, as they lost virtually 100% of their listeners.
Tune into rewoundradio.com Saturday from 11a-2pm Central Time as we playback the music, the DJs and the antics that helped make 60s and 70s radio so much fun to listen to. You will hear DJ favorites such as Dick Biondi, Joel Sebastian, Larry Lujack and ‘Chickenman’ creator Dick Orkin. All three of these DJs were also on WLS, with Dick Orkin being the creator of ‘The Tooth Fairy’.
Click on the promo link to learn how you can hear more about this one-time WLS archrival. WCFL on the Rewound Radio DJ Hall of Fame, Saturday March 7th and the 14th, beginning at 11am Central Time. (Thanks Bill Shannon for production of this promo.)
Thanks,
