EWU Announces Sale of KEWU-FM license to Spokane’s Oldies Preservation Society

[Eastern Washington University] Since 1950, the station has been managed and operated by EWU students, faculty and staff. Radio personality Colin Cowherd cut his media teeth at KEWU, as have hundreds of other EWU students.

“The KOOL Oldies format is like a museum of great music from the 50s to the 80s, including vintage commercials and the catchy theme songs of old TV shows,” said OPS board member Bob Anthony Fogal. “OPS plans to continue to serve the Inland Northwest from 89.5FM as KEWU has done now for nearly 75 years,”

    Studios and towers on the same property, KVAC/Forks, KONP Port Angeles, KDFL/Sumner, KAYE (KJUN when I worked there) and KASY/Auburn same. All the other stations I worked for had remote towers on the shore of lakes or in the case of KTAC in a cow pasture or swamp. The only station that had the tower on top of the building was KTOY/Tacoma, where I was educated on the fine points of becoming a broadcaster.

    Wow…Flashback. I did my first-ever board shift in April of 1969 at KEWC. the AM/FM studios & offices were on the second floor of the old Student Union building, and the short tower with the 10-watt FM’s antenna was right outside the window.!
