Phil Vandervort takes over as the host of KVI’s Morning Ride

I’m playing a little catch up as I add names to the history on the AM & FM pages…
From the KVI website:
You’ve heard him for the past 14 years as a KVI voice on The Commute with Carlson and now join Phil and his producer, Zach Wildfang, every weekday morning from 6-9, as they bring you the day’s first insight into the top local and political stories that impact your life, your town and your wallet so we can Make Washington Livable Again. The Morning Ride is fast-paced, filled with guest interviews from local leaders and politicians along with nationally respected voices like economist, Steve Moore, to give you unique insight that you won’t hear anywhere else.

Phil Vandervort is a life-long Puget Sound resident. Born in Tacoma and living in Seattle since 1994, Phil has worked in Seattle talk radio since 1997 at Seattle’s biggest stations and with Seattle’s most well-known talk show hosts like John Carlson and the dearly departed, Dori Monson and John Clayton. Phil and his wife have been married for 26 years and have a 17-year-old son. Off the air, Phil’s interests include finding new bands and music, playing bass guitar, going to local concerts (has he told you about The Sheepdogs?), staying healthy with exercise that’s easy on the knees–especially snow skiing–and grilling meat.

  1. Where’s Phil?

What happened to Phil? I have sent several emails to KVI asking what is going on and – wait for it – CRICKETS. I agree with other posters, I’ve been listening in the morning since Dori was host. This is such a shame. Brian Kilmeade doesn’t bring anything to the table. I want to listen to and call in about local issues as well as national. This is just the saddest thing. I MISS PHIL and Zach. I don’t listen in the morning anymore.

  2. Why are you doing this?

We lost Dori, no more John Carlson, and now Phil Vanderfort is gone. Agree with others’ comments – we NEED local insight and information. Is it the ratings alone that drive this decision? Thankful for Ari Hoffman, hope he can hold the line as Washington dives deeper into the sink hole

  4. More exercise time with Phil gone from KVI

    Ward says:

I used to listen to Phil in the morning before exercise to get the local news. Brian Kilmeade is OK but I will be less likely to delay exercising which I guess is a good thing.

  5. Vandervort and Wildfang were great!

    Barbara & Ken Miller says:

Sure missing Phil and Zach on KVI “Morning Ride” especially now with the state of nonsense in
Washington State political matters. We now must listen to other Washington State news sources since we no longer have the best source available prior to this change eliminating Phil and Zach’s
daily reporting . We think this decision should be reconsidered by KVI management … we’ll certainly be seeking the information that was being provided elsewhere from now on. We’ve been KVI listeners for decades … Good Bye KVI!

After thirty years of listening to KVI & local topics you dropped the morning ride. You have lost a listener.

I am upset Phil is no longer the morning host. We need a local person to keep us updated on the news. Will no longer listen to KVI. Big mistake on your part.

First I had to miss John Carlson, he was great and kept us up on local things too!
Now Phil and Zach are gone, and once again the voice for local and national news is gone! I miss him and Zach, they were a great team. I hope you reconsider and bring them back. We could really relate to them

    • Another syndication suggestion

      January 20, 2026 at QZVX

      Jason Remington says:

Likely a financial move. KVI ratings have been sliding (from 1.8 in July to 1.4 in December) –As long as KVI is opting for syndicated programs, why not take the Anthony Cumia Sunday night (5p-8p Seattle time) from WABC/Red Apple Media? Best talk show on the radio! I anticipate Cumia goes full-time in a big syndication deal this year. His contract is to be negotiated within weeks and his Sunday show is the top rated show on WABC.
