Porn, scams & white trash: KREM password protects station broadcast gear after FCC violation

HIGHLIGHTS FROM A SLOW MEDIA NEWS WEEK:
The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau entered into a Consent Decree with TEGNA this week, to resolve its investigation into the broadcast of indecent material on its Spokane TV station, KREM 2. The investigation started because of a complaint that a “pornographic video” aired during a weather report on the station’s 6:00 p.m. news in October 2021. TEGNA confirmed the video aired during on a monitor behind the weatherperson for 13 seconds. TEGNA determined that an unknown party accessed the monitor’s screencasting feature through the station’s unsecured local wireless network. After the incident, TEGNA directed all of its stations to disable all screencasting features, deactivated the station’s wireless network, removed all of the station’s smart TVs and monitors’ wireless components, and required the station to only use monitors lacking wireless connectivity going forward. The Consent Decree requires TEGNA to pay a $222,500 voluntary contribution to the U.S. Treasury and to implement a compliance plan at all of its stations to prevent future violations of the FCC’s indecency rules.

TV WORTH WATCHING

Rob Wolchek (FOX 2) is the Jesse Jones of Detroit. His reports are popular among viewers and this report is a great example of his work:

A Sinclair station, WKRC Cincinnati/CBS 12, spotlights crime by white trash in this report. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

“This woman called me TRASH just because I broke into her house…”–Quote of the Week.

WHAT’S UP WITH WALTER KELLEY?
The former KCPQ FOX 13 meteorologist recently shared his new passion, growing sunflowers in his garden at his Arizona home.
Kelley also posted that he bikes in AZ weather up to 111 degrees. But, it’s a dry heat. Not the unbearable humidity we have had in Washington.
