KOMO’s Murder Mystery Hype + Nexstar’s Bloody Cuts

Cause it’s witchcraft, wicked witchcraft, And although I know it’s strictly taboo…

Of the Seattle tv news channels sampled, it seems to my eyes that KOMO 4 has over-hyped a recent multiple murder/shooting more than any other PNW station. Well, women do love murder mysteries.
Experts tell us, women are drawn to murder mysteries and true crime for safety preparedness, emotional regulation, and the satisfaction of justice being served. These stories allow women to analyze danger, recognize red flags, and vicariously experience the resolution of chaos, providing a sense of control in a world where they are often victims.
At KOMO 4, the ladies have jumped on this story for one thing — VIEWERS. KOMO played this up, on beyond zebra! (If you know, you know.)

Nexstar has made cuts at KTLA 5/Los Angeles that include Glenn Walker, Lu Parker, Mark Kriski, and Kayce Montoya – along with producers and other staff. Huge loss to LA fans of these on-air personalities. This goes along with Nexstar cuts at WGN and across the country.

LIKE: WPIX/New York — Traffic Anchor Alexa Farrell, anchor Arrianee LeBeau, and anchor John Muller … GONE…GONE…GONZO!

Chicago: Sean Lewis, Dean Richards, Mike Jansen, Judy Wang, Chris Boden, Paul Lisnek, Julian Crews, Bronagh Tumulty, and Ray Cortipassi.

That merger with TEGNA is changing the TV landscape in a way that will upset a lot of viewers. The bean counters are at work, splicing and dicing wherever they can shave a nickel more (they are rounding up to nickels, because, you know… worthless pennies).

The Producers and Digital team at KGW 8/Portland voted to join IBEW, 17 YAY – 3 NAY. Just in time for a Nexstar/TEGNA merger.

FOX 5/San Diego anchor Phil Blauer interviews HIS dermatologist on-air this afternoon, discussing how chemicals in hair extensions may cause cancer and reproductive issues. Makes you wonder about the line between business, professionalism and personal profit.

Well, blow me down!

Community Radio KNSJ/San Diego, lost it’s broadcast tower in a winter storm and estimates are the station could be off the air close to a year, which could threaten the station license.

“KNSJ encourages all listeners to access us online on a smart speaker or computer, but most importantly on their cell phones by going to KNSJ.org using the Internet. The new app will make all of this even easier, but in the meanwhile, stay tuned to the daytime news and public affairs programs you have come to trust and to the nighttime music block with local DJs.”

KNSJ PHONE APP COMING SOON!

That station will be kicking the pledge drives into full tin-cup shaking mode!

Take off, hoser!

Sounds like a few in the Great White North are a little butt-hurt. Frank Seravalli, a Philadelphia-based NHL reporter, appeared on Vancouver’s Sportsnet 650 show Halford and Brough today for his regular segment. Instead of discussing hockey trades or the Canucks, the conversation turned heated when hosts Mike Halford and Jason Brough questioned him about a controversial tweet criticizing the backlash against the USA men’s hockey team’s White House visit after their gold medal win. Seravalli defended his view that players were unfairly vilified for accepting an invitation from the President “regardless of who it is,” arguing it highlighted a double standard and political overreach.
