Jim Acosta melts down on podcast over real possibilities at revamped CNN

Jim Acosta, the former CNN anchor who now hosts his own podcast since leaving CNN in 2025, has expressed strong concerns and sarcasm about the possibility of Scott Jennings (a CNN senior political commentator and Republican strategist) getting his own hosting role or prominent anchoring spot amid a corporate merger/takeover scenario involving CNN’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.

This came up in the context of Paramount (with Skydance) winning a bidding war to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, potentially leading to more Trump/MAGA-friendly ownership. On a recent episode of his show, Acosta voiced alarm over this shift and specifically highlighted worries about Jennings’ influence rising.

He sarcastically questioned the likelihood/outcome in a panicked or exaggerated tone, asking something along the lines of: “Do we want Scott Jennings anchoring the CBS Evening News or Anderson Cooper 360 & talking about what a great president Trump is & how he’s the best since George Washington?” He framed it as an undesirable “crazy 1984 shit” scenario where pro-Trump commentary dominates airwaves under new ownership, implying he sees Jennings taking a major hosting role as plausible but dystopian in that environment.

Such panic over the mere thought of Jennings getting his own show or elevated anchoring position (e.g., potentially even on CNN slots like AC360 or cross-network like CBS Evening News in a merged media landscape). This ties into broader fears Acosta raised about CNN becoming more favorable to Trump under new control.
