May 30, 2015 – Seattle market KMCQ-FM 104.5 Covington ends its Classic Hits run this weekend. It will become K-LOVE KLSW-FM Monday with a Contemporary Christian music format, following the recent purchase of the station by Educational Media Foundation.

May 29, 2015 – Residents on both sides of the border continue to be concerned about blanket interference from proposed new towers near Tsawwassen for KRPI AM 1550 Ferndale. The proposal was rejected by Whatcom County planners, who ruled the five 45-meter high towers were three times over existing limits, but the decision has been appealed in Washington State Superior Court, a process that could take several months. Project consultant Andrew Skotdal admits some phones, radios and home stereo systems will be affected but says the problems can be rectified using filters the station will pay for.

May 28, 2015 – KUBE-FM 93.3 Seattle evening host Eddie Francis has announced on his Facebook page that he is headed to Los Angeles. The Renton native has been on air in Seattle since 1999. The time slot is being voice-tracked by The Party KPTT-FM 95.7 Denver PD and multi-station air personality Deuce.

May 28, 2015 – The FCC has granted Voluntary Assignment of License for KNBQ-FM 98.5 Central Park from Sunnylands Broadcasting LLC to Josh Broadcasting, LLC.

May 27, 2015 – The purchase price for the Portland-based Alpha Media acquisition of the radio division of Morris Communications has been announced as $38,250,000 in documents filed with the FCC. Four stations in coastal Washington, News/Talk KXRO AM 1320 Aberdeen/K269FT 101.7 Hoquiam, Sports KWOK AM 1490 Aberdeen, Country Kix KXXK-FM 95.3 Hoquiam and Classic Rock KDUX-FM 104.7 Hoquiam are part of the deal. The transaction is subject to Commission approval.

May 26, 2015 – After 11 years hosting nights on KISW-FM 99.9 Seattle, Music Director Jolene is leaving the station for new opportunities outside of radio. She says it’s time to seek out new adventures. Her last show is Friday at 6.

May 26, 2015 – KAHC-LP 105.1 Aberdeen, owned by Grays Harbor Educational Media, has changed call letters to KCFL-LP. There is also a construction permit to move to 105.3 MHz at 46° 55′ 55.00″ 123° 43′ 59.00″ with 12 watts at 87 meters HAAT. FCC data Additionally, Seattle market KMCQ-FM 104.5 Covington, recently purchased by Educational Media Foundation will change calls to KLSW-FM when the acquisition is approved by the FCC. There is also an application to lower ERP from 7.1 to 6.7 kW and increase HAAT from 388 to 400 meters at the existing transmitter site.

May 22, 2015 – Radio Disney is selling KKDZ AM 1210 Seattle to Charles W. Banta and Sandra A. Miller’s Universal Media Access KKDZ-AM for $500,000. Banta is currently President and Miller is Controller and Principal of Mercury Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on investments in traditional and non-traditional media industries.

May 17, 2015 – A 90th Birthday Tribute was held Friday at The Swedish Club in Seattle for pioneer kiddies show host and “King of Scandinavian Humor” Stan Boreson. He hosted the hugely popular kids’ show King’s Klubhouse on KING-TV for 12 years during the 1950s and 60s.

May 15, 2015 – KISW-FM 99.9 Seattle has renamed its morning show BJ and Migs. Mornings. The change recognizes producer Steve Migs as official co-host and equal contributor to BJ Shea. Migs has been with the show since it moved to KISW in 2005.

May 15, 2015 – Bible Broadcasting Network will relaunch KXOT-FM 91.7 Tacoma using the new call letters KYFQ-FM. The purchase from PRC Tacoma for $2.4 million in cash, announced in February, has now closed. The station has been silent since that time.

May 12, 2015 – Seattle market KSTW-TV has added the upcoming American digital television network Decades to subchannel 11.2. Decades, which will mainly air classic television sitcoms and drama series from the 1950s through the 1980s, is a joint venture between the CBS Television Stations subsidiary of CBS Corporation and Weigel Broadcasting. Meanwhile, KVOS-TV recently dropped SurSagar from channel 12.3, which is now a blank screen.

May 11, 2015 – Former KIRO-TV Seattle meteorologist Rebecca Stevenson has posted on her Twitter page that she is returning to Seattle from New York, where she worked for Al Jazeera since June 2013. She left her position at KIRO in October 2012. She has posted “Meteorologist seeking work in Seattle!”

May 11, 2015 – The Seattle Sounders FC has signed a deal with El Rey 1360 KKMO AM to carry play-by-play soccer for the 2015 season in Spanish. The team has been without a Spanish language station since KBRO AM 1490 went dark in March. Mario Rodriguez will handle play-by-play along with analyst Felipe Maqueda. El Rey takes over the Spanish language radio coverage in coordination with KUNS-TV.

May 07, 2015 – Veteran Seattle broadcaster Jack Spencer passed away Tuesday night at his home in Sequim at age 84. His wife, Kathy, her sister, and longtime friend and radio colleague Bill Taylor were at his bedside. During a long career in radio news, Spencer was a reporter and anchorman at KIRO radio and TV, then served as news director at KVI, KIXI and KAYO.

May 06, 2015 – In an FCC filing, Seattle Streaming Radio, LLC is selling silent KBRO AM 1490 Bremerton, KNTB AM 1480 Lakewood, KLDY AM 1280 Lacey and K221FJ 92.1 Tacoma to Iglesia Pentecostal Visperia Del Fin for $600,000 plus operational costs until closing.

May 01, 2015 – The FCC has granted a modification of construction permit to Slavic Church ‘Sulamita’ for KCSC-LP 101.9 Mukilteo. It is authorized to operate with an ERP of 4 watts non-directional at 148 meters HAAT at 47° 51′ 30.70″ 122° 17′ 3.60″.

May 01, 2015 – Seattle market KPLU-FM 88.5 has named Morning Edition local producer Ed Ronco to local host of All Things Considered, replacing Dave Meyer effective May 4. Ronco joined KPLU in October 2013 as a reporter/host from noncommercial KCAW-FM 104.7 Sitka, AK. Meyer continues as Weekend Edition Saturday local host.

May 01, 2015 – The FCC has granted a construction permit to Earth On-the-Air Independent Media for a new low power FM station to serve Seattle. It will operate at 96.9 MHz with an ERP of 38 watts non-directional at 48.5 meters HAAT at 47° 39′ 33.90″ 122° 18′ 39.10″.
