CKWX

Thanks for the article, Jason. By the way, in 1958, CKWX became the first private radio station in western Canada to transmit at 50kw. The station also moved to its current 1130 frequency at this time. For years in Canada, the only stations allowed to transmit at 50kw were those operated by the government broadcaster CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). The first private radio station in Canada to operate at 50kw was CFRB Toronto. This event took place in September of 1948. Quite a contrast with the US, isn’t it?

Good point. Here is more info on the Canadian vs. United States regulatory agencies https://www.qzvx.com/canadian-radio-under-government-control-vs-american-free-market-broadcasting-a-century-of-differences/
