Comedian Jim Bruer believes TV news today is slanted to foment HATE. I agree and also believe there is no need for 24 hour news channel or anything more than news at 5pm and 11pm.
Jeff Slakey of KMAS/Shelton marks a career anniversary:
“This past week, on July 5, I celebrated 21 YEARS on KMAS and 24 years on radio with KBTC and KGY combined. Wow! What a long, strange trip its been. So honored to wake up with so many great people out there in “Listener-Land” each morning. I can’t wait to see what’s to come in the next 21. Enjoy some old photos I found over the years I found.
Couldn’t have done it without the support of so many people, including Stefanie Slakey, Mary Thygesen, Jim and Marnie Slakey, John and Rachel Hansen, Dale Hubbard and Jerry Eckenrode, Randy L Roadz, Dick Pust, Will Stone, Rick and Lennae Holm.”

KMAS/Tracing the Fjord https://www.tracingthefjord.com/ In 2022 Jeff had left KMAS (after 16 years) to join the Fjord magazine team. A year later, upon hearing the 40-year-old radio station was about to be dismantled and permanently go off the air, he and John and Rachel Hansen put in an offer to acquire the station and let the voice of Mason County be heard loud and clear.
100.7 KKWF turns 21 this November 30th. Until then, expect concerts and contests in conjunction with this anniversary. The second of their :Secret Shows” is coming up at the end of the month.
“The Northwest’s most mysterious concert is back. That’s right, 100.7 The Wolf Secret Show returns this summer, where you won’t know who’s taking the stage until the moment the show begins.
And because The Wolf is turning 21, we’re doing it twice.”
A big party at a Country bar would be an obvious promotion in November. For fear of a lawsuit if a patron would drink, drive, and have a car accident, the station’s lawyers would likely poo-poo that idea. I was never Promotions Director at radio stations.
I have another great idea for Thanksgiving. It involves delivering turkeys to listeners via helicopter.
After 25 years as morning host at KLUC/Vegas, Chet Buchanan left the station in February. His replacement has been announced. Shawn Tempesta hosts “The Shawn Show” in mornings on CHR 98.5 KLUC Las Vegas. RadioInsight reports, Tempesta previously spent a decade at sister Hot AC “Mix 94.1” KMXB as APD/afternoon host until departing at the end of 2021 to host mornings at Beasley Hot AC “102.7 VGS” KVGS from June 2022 until the station’s demotion to 107.9 last November.

Lisa Wood says: I worked at KUBE93 as a host and producer of the T-Man show, at KFNK (Funky Monkey) where I hosted my own local show called Garage Monkey. I moved over to KISW and wrote an attention-getting blog about the real state of commercial radio. After that I found a much happier existence in public radio at KEXP where I hosted regularly and was one of the hosts of the local show, Audioasis. I was there for several years before moving to Portland. In Portland, I worked at KUFO where I was a nighttime host, the creator and host of the local music show “Viva La Luna,” and co-host of “The Punk Show.” I was also the Promotions Director. When Alpha Media bought the CBS cluster, they laid everyone off and my husband and I opened Big-Ass Sandwiches. It was open for 7 years. During that time, I hosted a show on the Funemployment Radio Network called “Play Anything” on one of the first Podcast networks ever created. Now, I am a host, producer, writer and journalist at Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB). My work has been featured on NPR, as well. The new season of “60 Minutes” is just a couple of months away, and the program still has only three official correspondents: Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim. You could probably also include former “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell, who contributes to the show.
But the show needs to fill the holes left by Anderson Cooper (who resigned), and Scott Pelley, Sharon Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, who were fired by Bari Weiss.
Acording to the LA Times, two CBS News journalists are now being considered for correspondent roles: “Seth Doane, a longtime correspondent based in Italy who is often seen on ‘CBS Sunday Morning,’ is under consideration, along with chief investigative correspondent Jim Axelrod, who currently has a lead role in the ‘Eye On America’ series featured on the ‘CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil.’”
(Dokoupil is expected to do up to four pieces a year for “60 Minutes.”)
The Times also reports Trevor Phillips, a British journalist and former politician who recently joined CBS News as senior global affairs correspondent, will have a role on the program. Major Garrett, CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent, will contribute to “60 Minutes” as well.
Other names that could end up on “60 Minutes” include CBS News national correspondent Matt Gutman, CBS News foreign correspondent Holly Williams, and Mariana van Zeller, a journalist for National Geographic Channel.
