Sounds like maybe their investment is like throwing good money after bad. These days, even major market stations feel the struggle.
Been there done that

Owning a radio station isn’t like having a party. Soon those who have been focused on programming realize it can be tough to pay the bills. Sales, sales and more sales become the focus and not always easy, fun or sometimes not even stuff that you want to put on the air. I had KBFW with a biz partner from 1985 until 1999. We did not have to compete with the internet in those days, but we did feel the pressure from the rise of FM and when cable TV was allowed to sell and insert local ads. But, as I see these announcements of stations currently being sold, the bargain basement prices are amazing. Our 1kw AM sold for 20x the price of this Salem station.
