(FB 1-13-25) Remember writing your outlines for a book report in high school?
They started with a TITLE followed by
A.) Subsets of the plot, broken into points describing the
1. Foreshadowing,
2. The imagery, and
3. The symbolism, in the story.
Then the topics are simplified further with
a. point of view,
b. the conflict, and
c. summary of characters.
I’ve written an outline of my 20+ years working as a broadcast meteorologist that includes all of these literary devices (and more…).
For me, the most enjoyable part to write may be the character descriptions and the plot analysis.
However, as much as I have relished my chapters of atmospheric education and mastering the build of my own weather forecasts from numerical models,
I am making a stealthy departure in the next chapter.
In my conclusion, I am no longer presenting on a local tv station, delivering my weather stories to you daily. I am working on the location for my new chapter about a different angle in my career. I don’t have it yet. I’m looking, researching, and applying.
Currently, my toes are in the cold, wet grass of Seattle while my hands are reaching through the cloud outlines and every layer of earth’s atmosphere while grasping for the stars.
I promise to update you on my progress. Please keep me in your most positive thoughts while I find a new job for a new chapter. #outlook #science #career

Marilee Adams says:
It appears a handful of weather reporters have left their local TV stations for competing TV stations this past year. Kiro has gone through tons of different weather reporters/meteorologists.
Rebecca Stevenson, I believe, has worked at komo, king, kiro and local Fox 13.
I remember also when she made tv commercials for one of the local radio stations years ago. She also tended at a bar called the Mecca on lower Queen Anne !
You are correct!

Rebecca has made the rounds at all the tv news stations. She is among the few watchable forecasters.

Yep, I agree with the other posters, Rebecca was the real deal. No flim-flam, just the weather facts. We DO miss you Rebecca. Please come back!

My husband and I have been searching for information on where Rebecca Stevenson had gone. We have been concerned when it began to be evident that she was not on vacation. So sorry to see that she is no longer on KOMO giving us her professional, warm, and always sunny weather reports. KOMO should have given us the information that she was no longer with the station instead of just saying nothing. I hope Rebecca that we will see you again in the near future in the Seattle market. Will miss your beautiful smile! Take care of yourself.

John Ross says:
Ever since Fisher dumped “flour” on all of our heads by selling out to Sinclair, KOMO has been all down hill. It used to be a real tight-knit family affair, now highly fractured with Mary Nam and Shannon trying to keep it together. I can imagine everyone is on stress alert. The whole Seattle TV market sucks. Rebecca was another that held the KOMO glue of the family together. She’ll be missed!

Insiders say many of the anchors/reporters just seem to be “milling” around the KOMO newsroom.

Howard Musolf says:
This news is really sad. I have watched KOMO before it was ABC. Yes I’m really old.
Rebecca was always a breath of fresh air. She was concise, accurate and a pleasure to watch and listen to. Rebecca just came across like a neighbor you would love to have.
Now that the new guy is in charge, of course the 1st thing is get the higher paid employees out the door. I’m guessing it has started with Rebecca, one can only guess who’s next. Very sadly her replacement is nowhere near the professional that Rebecca was, not only that the newbie’s voice is like fingernails going down a blackboard. I’m now switching to Fox13. I have been a died in the wool KOMO watcher for over 50 years, but not anymore

Mark Christopher says:
I’ve had many calls over the last few weeks from concerned listeners, and even I began to wonder of Rebecca’s absence. She is one seen to many as “Seattle and The Northwest”. She has gained such a following over the years and has achieved that trust in her profession. Like so many in TV and Radio, you can feel connection with one who “talks to you” and “not at you”. Rebecca achieved this among many. Seattle is a “On Its Own Broadcasting Market” . New York, Chicago, LA and so on style doesn’t work here. On the other hand if you win here you can go anywhere. Proof is how many we’ve seen from here ended up in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and so on. Morgan Chesky-KOMO , Peter Alexander-KCPQ among most recent, Aaron Brown-KING/KIRO, and many more.
She is among my favorites ( I have so many) as she supplied weather forecasts for my weekend shifts at KOMO/NW Newsradio along with Shannon, Theron and others. While at KIRO TV years ago she was one and Morgan Palmer who supplied my weather reports for my Morning show at WARM FM.
This world of broadcasting is show business. It’s also a challenge in whatever part you chose to do. It is not just a job or a way to earn a paycheck. Its dedication everyday, being creative everyday, showing up everyday and yes learning from mistakes. Above all its finding your individual style that the viewer or listener can connect with. Many fail.
Mark Twain once said “the two most important days in life is the day you’re born and the day you find out why”. That why for many is often more than just one. Thank you Rebecca for sharing your years of NW weather knowledge and your friendship to so many and to myself.
As you enjoy the fun of the next “Why” in life I will also say “Watch”.

My husband and I thought like some of the above comments that Rebecca was on vacation. I was about to call the station, I was that concerned. We loved watching your sweet style Rebecca. Since Steve Poole left KOMO it’s been a downhill plunge other than Shannon. You two seemed to like each other.

The first time I saw Rebecca she was in the Everett 4th of July parade. She is still as lovely now as she was then. I’ve always watched her over the years. I will miss her a lot and would change channels if not for Mary and Shannon. Good luck Rebecca !

I think Rebecca made a wise decision to seek a new position. Her delivery of the weather news always made me cringe. I know there’s a perfect job out there that will totally match her skills. I wish her the best in finding it.

Rebecca, I saw you arrive at KIRO as Chief Meteorologist, taking the reigns from Andy Wappler, and depart with Julie Francavilla and Jenny Hogan, no notice to viewers. KIRO has had numerous exits over the years, and I’ve heard their Program Director is difficult to work with. Julie and Jenny never returned to local broadcasting, but you did. Moved to Aljazeera weather in Chicago for a stint, then back to the PNW at KCPQ for another stint, and had some longevity with KOMO. We didn’t get too personal this time as with KIRO, no more Rainier cherries. Love is hard. Good luck.

my wife and I really enjoyed watching she and Michelle on the weekend They were great joking and interacting with each other. Rebecca was so accurate in the weather , when she said showers would clear up and sunshine would be here at noon the sun would be shining at noon. She will be sorely missed.

Sure miss you, Rebecca. Of course we wonder why you left. We’ve appreciated you, your expertise, even your fashion style. It was clear you wanted to do your best in every way for those of us inviting you/KOMO into our homes. Hope you will let us know where we can find you next.

I knew something was up when she was a no-show during the past couple weeks. I initially thought she was on vacation, but then I remembered the same thing happened when she was on KIRO TV over a decade ago, disappeared with no explanation. I really hope it wasn’t because of a `bad’ viewer out there in either case – she definitely doesn’t deserve that.
I always enjoyed watching your weather forecasts, Rebecca. Take care, be safe, and good luck with your new endeavors!

I really do miss you, Rebecca. I was upset when you disappeared with no trace or mention on the station. I hope it was strictly your decision. I will watch other stations more for weather reports now except when Shannon or George is doing them. I hope you will keep us posted. KOMO didn’t say anything about your leaving.
Good luck!

What a SHOCK to realize that Rebecca was gone.

Sorry to see Rebecca go. My husband and I thought she had finally found a great match being on Komo. She had gotten very comfortable in front of the camera and was doing such a good job. Wow, really shocked to hear this one.
On a brighter note, happy to see Theron Zahn back on the weekend desk in the morning, both days. Will keep my fingers crossed this is not just another fluke for the last weekend.
