Ain’t no future in tv news, some say.

Ryan Simms quit his job as a reporter for KOMO 4, last week.
“THE END OF A (PERSONAL) ERA!!! Today not only marks my final day at
@komonews
but also in the television news industry. The last 17 years have been an exhilarating mix of adrenaline and adventure. I’m grateful to anyone who ever crossed my camera and allowed me to tell their stories. THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY CHILDHOOD DREAM BECOME A REALITY FOR 17 AMAZING YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

He got out while he was still young enough to segue into a new career, outside of the broadcast industry. He joins many others who took an opportunity to “spend more time with family,” or change careers.

What effect do independent journalists of the web have on the viewership of local tv news? Are the numbers dwindling because news is available in an instant on X and other platforms?
