KIRO NewsRadio 97.3 gave Heather Bosch the boot. Her contract is not being renewed. They didn’t actually give her a boot, but a cardboard box to put her things in. After seven years, Bosch leaves KIRO for the second time. Bosch worked at KIRO from 1999 to 2011, leaving for an anchor position with CBS Radio News. She returned to KIRO in 2018. She freelances for the network to this day, filling in when needed.
Bosch, in a social media post, said KIRO will not be back-filling her position.

Don O'Neill chimes in on the Bosch firing

Jason Remington says:
Don O’Neill formerly with KIRO-FM.
Heather was let go yesterday at KIRO RADIO. They are owned by the Mormon Church which preaches excellence , kindness, community involvement, humanity, love, and family values…
Between all the commercials on their sports station about alcohol, gaming, and gambling which the Church is incredibly opposed to and use to forbid …they have found an incredibly painful way to throw away all their great talent as they look to maximize profit.
A lot of that talent consists of women.
The church board that use to walk through our studios (and they run these stations) are all very conservative men.
So let me just say what everyone in that building feels, but they are too scared to share…
First off, I have to jump in here and stand up for my former colleague who worked on our show, is a incredible journalist , and is an award winning broadcast legend.
“After decades as a successful broadcast journalist, the local radio station I worked for declined to renew my contract. They did provide a lovely cardboard box for me to put my most recent awards in, and my news director was kind enough to fetch my coat. “Realocating resources” I was told. They will not be “back filling” my position. I will continue to do fill-in work for CBS” Heather B.
When Ron and I first arrived st KIRO we were asked by a Mormon program director , why we were letting woman and our news anchors give their opinions on air..
We told them because your station is dying and you need strong journalists like Libby, Rachel, Tina, Kim, Ursula, Colleen, and Heather to share their world view.
The ratings exploded and woman and men came to the station in droves!
And all but one of those names is left…
And they wonder why their ratings outside of sports programming has left.
In our business when they are done with you, you get a cake like Dave Ross or while you are on air, (I hear), they take all your emails, they turn off your door codes, they steal all your social media and change the passwords, and they hand you a box , walk you to your desk, watch you fill said box (that has all you pictures and awards of your family and friends), then escort you out of the building like a common criminal.
They will offer you a very small amount of money to not talk about it…and you have to sign a form saying you won’t file a lawsuit.
People in radio need the money.
They take the box and the small check.
And they are silenced.
Then you never hear from that station again.
And they do it in front of everyone in the building to send a message.
I’m surprised Cathy and Brian who run the stations locally , did this in such a harsh fashion.
Ive always thought highly of both them. Still do. But???
You can lay great people off, but still celebrate their contributions, and Heather’s office full of awards for impeccable story telling and journalism.
This is where true journalism is going everyone.
Opinion sells, not journalism.
And they are handing that box to a lot of people.
And their ratings outside of Seahawks and Mariners are struggling like a lot of legacy media, and advertisers are running for podcasts I hear…
Hey business models change and thats ok.
But dont preach Jesus’s value’s, then treat your employees like Judas.
Thats 🐴 💩 .
Ron and I will be taking this award winning rockstar to dinner, and buying her a (expletive deleted) cake.
Hey KIRO RADIO.
Grow up and do better. You’re the Mormon Church for Christ’s sakes.
Treat her like Jesus would .
She’s a legend and you handed her a box!
Cathy and Brian will get their box one day and find out how painful it is for those like Heather on the other side.
All the managers involved in the decision about our exit were all handed a box … they are all gone.
And they didnt get a cake either.
And that station has never recovered .
I hear….
I feel like a big brother in this situation and something needed to be said…
Heather will rise from the ashes.
We did.
Off the Sell the Sound.
We love you Heather!
