  1. Now I know why I loved listening to Jim McGavick.

When Bobby Wooten hired me at KAYO for my first part time shift, the first thing he asked was, “Do you look down on country music?”

From my first day, he never said what to play or what to say. The archives had music going back fifty years and Bobby taped a note up that said, “Feel free to dig back for some old classics if you like.” That was it.

    1. At most radio stations, I was able to choose the music from a large library of albums and 45s. When corporate owners ruled, there were restrictions. We always stayed within the format and appreciated the freedom to “set the mood.”
