Focused on personal finance, breaking news, and special projects. Served as president of the New Jersey Associated Press Broadcasters Association and earned multiple awards (Emmys, Tellys, AP, SPJ).
After leaving daily news anchoring, Layson founded New Media Solutions (a content production company) around 2007. He created videos, webcasts, and marketing content for clients like Griot’s Garage, Apple Physical Therapy, Windermere Real Estate, and others. He also wrote columns (e.g., for the Puyallup Herald) and blogged.
KBTC Public Television (Tacoma) — Layson joined KBTC (a PBS station owned by Bates Technical College) as Managing Editor and became the longtime producer/host of Northwest Now, a weekly public affairs program now in its 17th season.
The show focuses on Western Washington issues: politics, local government, economy, environment, transparency, and community stories.
