KMOX St. Louis Talks with Peter Maer on CBS Radio Shutdown

Maer began his career in local radio, working at stations in the St. Louis area (including WGNU and WIBV), Nashville, and Atlanta. In Atlanta, he covered state government and the Civil Rights Movement in the 1970s.

He joined the network level in the mid-1970s and became a prominent White House correspondent, primarily for CBS News Radio (and at times affiliated with Mutual/NBC Radio). He covered the White House beat from 1986 until his retirement in 2015, reporting on presidents from Jimmy Carter through Barack Obama. His reporting reached audiences nationwide via stations like Chicago’s WBBM and others.

A very good, but sad interview. I too will miss the “bong at the top of the hour” and the CBS news. By the way, I was living in Montreal during the 1970s and was able to tune in KMOX in the evenings. The signal at 1120Khz was strong, and I knew that I had tuned in KMOX when I heard the “bong” at the top of the hour.
