    Effective September 1, 2026, Audacy will discontinue operations of News & Talk 840 AM (KXNT-AM) in Las Vegas. That’s the 3rd AM station there shut down since 2023.
    Conservative Talk/News will be heard on KDWN Vegas 101.5 K-Dawn.
    The property the transmitter for KXNT sits on has been sold to a developer.

    This will happen in Seattle someday. There are many stations underperforming. It’s just a matter of time.

      It is certainly sad to read this. Whatever the faults of AM radio, its signals can travel great distances at night. This is excellent for emergency situations and for people living in isolated areas beyond the range of local radio signals.

      The NIMBYs on Vashon won’t stand for a transmitter site getting turned into a subdivision, so I think those are all relatively safe. The Mercer Slough sites (880/1150/1540) are all on preserve land owned by the city of Bellevue, so they aren’t going anywhere. The 850 site is owned by Vertical Bridge but is in the Puyallup River floodplain.

      The 1590/1300/1680 site on Bainbridge would probably fetch a pretty penny. It’s surrounded by housing on two sides. The entire island is within city limits (and therefore a designated Urban Growth Area). A proposal to build there would probably fly even if the neighbors don’t like it.

      The West Seattle site of 1050/1250 looks ripe for housing development and 1420/1620 in Renton as well. 1210 in Auburn could be turned into an industrial site.

          KXNT Host Alan Stock announced the closure Friday at the start of his “News at 8” program, reading from a prepared statement while wearing headphones.

          “I have an important update for our listeners. Effective September 1, News Talk 840 KXNT will conclude its broadcast operation,” Stock said. “To put it simply, the station’s transmitter site is shutting down. Our parent company, Audacy, explored a number of alternative transmission options, but ultimately wasn’t able to identify a technically and financially viable long-term solution. This wasn’t an easy decision.”

          “I know KXNT has been a part of this community for a long time, and it’s been an honor to spend time with you every day,” Stock continued. “I’m incredibly grateful to our listeners, our advertisers, and everyone who has made the station such an important part of Las Vegas.”
          The approximately 40 full- and part-time staffers will remain with Audacy.

          THAT is rare. No loss of jobs. Just fortunate there was an FM in town to catch them when they fell.

    Neil Everett departed ESPN in June 2023, and Linda Cohn announced her retirement before hosting her final SportsCenter on June 26. Everett gave 23 years to the network, and Cohn hosted SportsCenter more than anyone over 34 years.

    Richard Deitsch welcomed Cohn and Everett to the latest episode of Sports Media with Richard Deitsch and gave them the floor.

    “I just thought the way it was handled was poor,” Cohn said. “Neil knows about when you’re not wanted anymore. But this one hit home. Obviously, you can like Ryan Clark, you can not like Ryan Clark, but he deserved a better exit. I mean, there was so many ways you could’ve told this guy. The night before, if you were concerned about this story breaking and who was breaking it, you could have never let him take the set at NFL Live. You could have done it differently.     FM station KGRG-FM was taken silent (under approved Silent STA) dating back to June 20,
    2024, when the station lost the use of its licensed (leased) transmitter site. The licensed
    antenna system was removed from the tower. The station resumed operation under an
    Engineering STA 0000271730 on June 1, 2025, and was taken silent again on June 16, 2025,
    while the college sought another entity to assign the license to.

    The process and procedures for seeking a new licensee has proven to be complicated by the
    fact that the station is licensed to a public community college and needs to follow Washington
    state requirements for disposal of assets. That process is not yet complete, but there is now
    “light at the end of the tunnel”, with an expectation that an assignment application will be able to
    be filed in the near future.

    An Engineering STA 0000298906 was granted on June 10, 2026, to resume operation using a
    tower on the Green River College campus, specifically the site of the station’s 1982 license
    facility. (The antenna and transmission line had been left installed on this tower when KGRGFM
    relocated to its currently-licensed site.) The station resumed operation that same day, on June 10, 2026.
    Operation was discontinued again on June 30, 2026, to allow the college to pursue assignment of the station license.
    Due to an oversight, a new request for Silent STA was not timely filed, but is being requested now.

  8. Kraken TV Analyst Olczyk Moves On

    After four seasons as a TV color analyst on Kraken games, Eddie Olczyk is leaving local broadcast work to spend more time with his Chicago-based family that’s always been there for him.
    “I’ve done the same schedule for the last 20 years,” Olczyk said referencing his Kraken and prior Chicago Blackhawks television work with national games added in.

    Olczyk worked 65 games last season, including playoffs, for TNT and national radio in addition to his Kraken coverage.

    His departure will be the only change to the KHN lineup this coming season, with JT Brown sliding back in as the lone primary color analyst alongside play-by-play mainstay John Forslund. (Kraken)

  9. Vancouver's "Wave FM" Expands Reach

    Durham Radio says a CRTC decision issued Friday will expand revenue opportunities for its Vancouver Smooth Jazz station, WAVE 98.3 (CIWV-FM), after more than a three-year wait. The commission approved a new FM transmitter on 98.7 FM that will more than double the station’s reach into Metro Vancouver’s Tri-Cities—Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody—plus communities east of Highway 1.

    Originally filed in March 2023, the transmitter will sit in the Burquitlam corridor, 15 km east of the current Downtown Vancouver site. Kirk expects the $300,000–$400,000 investment to deliver stronger revenue.

        Barnes was initially given the option to resign or be fired, according to sources, with the chief choosing not to resign.
