    “Pivot” podcast co-host Scott Galloway told co-host Kara Swisher that he was approached about a job at “60 Minutes.”

    When asked by Swisher, Galloway said, “I said, no (expletive) way.”

    Galloway told Swisher that the job was kind of an Andy Rooney-type role. Rooney, of course, was on “60 Minutes” from 1978 to 2011. He would give brief, often humorous, commentaries at the end of the program.

    “Bari called me and asked me if I’d be interested in having some sort of contributor role. I am clearly not qualified to be one of their journalists. So on the phone we zeroed in on the potential of me contributing an Andy Rooney-like segment.”

    A CBS News spokesperson said that it was actually Galloway who approached them.

    “We think Scott’s great. When he approached us with a pitch for an Andy Rooney-esque segment, we were happy to consider it.”

    Galloway disputed that account, saying it was Weiss who reached out to him.

    Earlier Positions: Morning anchor at WYFF News 4 in Greenville, SC (Emmy-nominated morning show). He has also worked as an anchor/reporter for other outlets, including a stint with One America News, and has experience as a former White House correspondent. His career began in the late 1990s.

    Rockwell Smith began his radio journey in 1962 at KSRA-AM in Salmon, Idaho, as a high school student hosting “Radio Pow-Wow” and “Platter Playtime.” He later worked at KMBY-AM (Billings, MT), KASY (Auburn, WA), helped launch KUPS (Tacoma, WA), then KLIX (Twin Falls, ID). In Boise, he served as DJ, chief engineer, and general manager at KBRJ-AM/KBBK-FM and later KFXD AM/FM. He consulted on KYET-AM/KWBJ-FM (Payette) and engineered for Boise’s six-station cluster including KTHI, KJOT, and KRVB.     Gene Shalit, the longtime film critic for NBC’s “TODAY” show whose walrus mustache and exuberant wordplay made him one of television’s most recognizable reviewers, died Friday, his family said. He was a fixture on the program for four decades.
    Shalit “passed away peacefully today after 100 years of an amazing life,” his family told NBC News in a statement.
    Shalit started as a part-time “TODAY” show contributor in 1970 before moving to a full-time role three years later. He earned national fame as the program’s go-to movie analyst, offering his take on summer blockbusters, awards contenders and other big-screen projects until his retirement in 2010. (NBC)

      The Justice Department (DOJ) on Friday announced it has closed its antitrust investigation into Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, concluding the transaction is not likely to harm competition or American consumers.

      The Antitrust Division said its eight-month review examined more than two million documents and found the deal could strengthen competition across the media and entertainment industry, including in streaming video, traditional television and theatrical film distribution.

    “60 Minutes” cannot function with just three correspondents.
    Question now is  — who will be the new ’60 Minutes” correspondents?

    According to Stephen Battaglio (LA Times), among names being floated:

    Holly Williams, a foreign correspondent working out the network’s London Bureau. She spent eight years in Istanbul before that. She has covered war zones in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Gaza and Ukraine, and has contributed to “60 Minutes” in the past.

    Tony Dokoupil. Yes, he is currently the lead anchor on the “CBS Evening News,” but it’s not unusual for anchors to also do stories for “60 Minutes.”

    Matt Gutman, a chief correspondent at CBS who was hired away from ABC by Weiss.

    Mariana van Zeller, a correspondent for the National Geographic Channel.

    Norah O’Donnell, the former “CBS Evening News” anchor who has done pieces for “60 Minutes.”

    Major Garrett, who is CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent who also has contributed to the “60 Minutes.” Garrett was chosen to interview Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a “60 Minutes” segment.

  10. Cleveland TV News Anchor Nails Dad Joke Delivery

    Gabe Spiegel (FOX 8 News/Cleveland) delivered the punch and then awkwardly paused, giving the best delivery of a silly Dad joke that I have ever seen. Co-anchor Natalie Herbick’s response says it all.
