    Tyrah Majors closes out her stay at KOMO 4 News on June 26th. Next stop, KIRO 7 News in some capacity. Probably not hosting a daily segment on fashion, but she is an OK traffic reporter.

    QZVX was offline and in “time out” for the better part of the past two days.
    The web hosting company was of little help, claiming QZVX and some other customers were down due to a degraded server. I think we deserve better than that. We don’t sit in the back of the bus.
    Same hosting company has been hounding us to upgrade. I was under the impression we had unlimited bandwidth. I guess I was mistaken. This site grows quickly, we have a lot to say.
    Worry not! We are here despite any grievances the Interweb hosts might have. Eviction notices be damned!
    All I can say is, QZVX will continue entertaining readers and the lights will stay on. Even if the curtains are drawn and we are not answering the door.

  6. ABC's The View stirred the cauldron

    In response to the federal government’s aggressive attempts to regulate ABC and its businesses, the company is launching a public awareness campaign to encourage viewers to speak out against the efforts.

    Since assuming the role of Federal Communications Commission chairman last January, Brendan Carr has used his power to target disfavored media organizations like ABC. He has launched an investigation into daytime talk show “The View,” started early reviews of eight local stations and made thinly veiled threats against the company. These efforts have drawn criticism as the FCC is supposed to be an independent regulatory agency — an idea Carr pushed back against.

    From The Washington Post: To fight back, ABC started airing messages Monday during “The View’s” commercial breaks, urging audiences to reach out to the FCC via its website, where the agency is soliciting comments about its investigations into the local stations. The company has also created messages aimed at local markets.

    “‘The View’ has welcomed your favorite guests and covered the issues you care about for nearly 30 years. Now, the FCC wants to control who is allowed to appear on the show,” one commercial states. “Viewers, use your voice.”

    Worth noting: Under Carr, the FCC has also opened investigations into NPR, PBS, NBC and KCBS. First Amendment advocates have called these efforts a government-led attempt to intimidate and harass media organizations.

    “CBS Mornings” is on track to post its worst June ever.

    New Nielsen data showed that the morning program is averaging roughly 1.7 million viewers and 275,000 adults ages 25 to 54 this month — numbers that would make June the lowest-rated in the show’s history.

    The disappointing performance comes on the heels of the show’s worst-rated May ever and its lowest-rated first quarter on record, according to the report.

      I remember Kris Hamilton, a great DJ at KORD in Tri-Cities. He had a very emotional last show that I found very inspiring.
      A year or so later, I saw him in Walla Walla, where he was working. I said I’m sorry you left KORD, his reply was, I’m not!

    January – Dick Bingham replaces Don Riley as chief newscaster at KIRO tv. Bingham will head the 6:20 pm and 11 pm newscasts.

    February – Average weekly hours of color programming: 66.5 split between Channel 5 with 41 hours; Channel 4 with 11 hours; 9 hours on Channel 11 and 5.5 hours on Channel 7.

    March – KVI’s Bob Hardwick begins an interview program on KTNT 11, scheduled to compete with local newscasts from other stations at 11 pm.

    April 29 – Radio men kept calm during an earthquake this morning. Dave Smith of KOL said: “We’ve got cracks going every direction down here; the parking lot sunk about four inches and we were knocked off the air for about 30 minutes.”

    Gene Wike replaces Ted Bryant on KING 5’s World Today broadcast. Bryant is to join Charles Herring in a new evening news venture.

    Keith Jackson begins play-by-play duties with ABC tv

    May 5 – Bob Hardwick’s KTNT TV program has pumped up ratings and will expand to one hour each week. His guest this week is rock ‘n’ roll radio host Pat O’Day.

    June – Margaret Lloyd replaces Elaine Shafer as hostess of Romper Room. Margaret Loyd joins the KTNT Tacoma staff from KTVF TV Fairbanks, AK.

    July – “Over worked” Seattle disc jockeys should take note of Bob Crane’s work schedule. Crane mans the morning show at KNX Los Angeles six days a week, while making numerous tv guest appearances. The Hogan’s Hero will be leaving radio soon as the tv workload has become so demanding.

    August – KBVU radio/Bellevue is set to switch to an all-news format.

    September – J. Elroy McCaw sold his independent Denver television outlet, KCTO-TV, for $3.5 million to Chicago’s WGN Inc., a subsidiary of the Chicago Tribune. McCaw is the owner of Tacoma’s KTVW 13 and part owner of KIXI radio/Seattle.

    Tommy Vance has abandoned his rock ‘n’ roll pulpit at KOL and joined forces with the enemy, KJR.

    Danny Kaye and Lester Smith, ownwers of KJR and stations in Spokane and Portland, are negotiating to buy Cincinnati AM and FM outlet WCPO.

    October 31 – Al Cummings s now heard from 3-7 pm on KING-AM radio. Mark Wayne will be heard from 1-3 pm and 7-9 pm. Lee Askervold joins KING this week on the midnight shift.

    KMCS FM is now known as KBBX FM

    November 22 – KVI radio sports director, Bill Schonely, originates his 5:45 pm sports show this Monday from Las Vegas, headquarters for the Clay-Patterson fight.

    December 25 – Charles Herring and Ted Bryant narrate KING TV’s annual local news review starting at 6 pm Friday. The 30-minute telecast will fill the Huntley-Brinkley time slot. The network will not broadcast the newscast that day.

      Definitely a different time when NBC didn’t air their nightly news on a holiday… now, unless one of the networks is running live sports on Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s… network news is pretty much guaranteed to run on major holidays…
