CKNW AM was a monster station in Vancouver, may still be. I cannot think of any Seattle station….ever…that so dominated the “adult” demos. They had some heavyweight talk show hosts. Jack Webster comes to mind. I used to listen this side, south of the border, just to try to figure out what they were doing so right!

KVI, KIRO-AM, KOMO each had their period of what you might call dominance with similar formats. But, those numbers were fleeting. And that was decades ago.

According to the bio of the George Garrett we are speaking of, he started at CKNW in the 1950s and retired in 1999. So, PSM was in error. Not the same guy.

You are correct! 2 different fellows. George Garrett started at CKNW in the 1950s, retiring in 1999. Thanks for pointing out our error.

I worked with George Garrett for many years at CKNW and CFMI in Vancouver. He is not the same George Garrett who worked at KURB and KOL.

Sorry to hear George has to deal with this challenge and hope the treatment is successful. He is one of the greats among local radio news reporters, from a time when local radio news really mattered. Bryan Johnson belongs on the short list too. Who else?

      For radio… Frank Thompson-KJR, Chuck Bolland-KJR & KTAC…others?

Dick Keplinger. He did his fifteen minute broadcasts from his home studio. I’ll never forget his weather forecast, “Seattle, Tacoma, (half a dozen or more locations), and way points . . .”
