Reason #423 To Cut The Cable: 800 Free TV Channels From Google

Google says: Starting today, we’re integrating access to free channels from Tubi, Plex and Haystack News directly into the Live tab, alongside the existing lineup of channels from Pluto TV. We’re also launching free built-in channels from Google TV that you can watch without even downloading or launching an app. In total, you can now browse over 800 channels and premium programming, including news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX. You can also tune in to channels from around the world, with programming in more than 10 languages including Spanish, Hindi and Japanese. Read more…

      There are many aggregators of radio, such as TuneIn, iHeart, Radio.com and others. Google is the first to do this with all the free channels from the various TV services. Those services, like Tubi will still control which channels they have on their service. This should also bring competitors to match the Google service. Smart TV manufacturers could do this with newer sets and possibly a download available to Smart tvs currently in operation.

    The article mentions that other tv devices will be able to download their app, later this year.
