Anchorless newscasts, from a former TV reporter’s view

Claudia Rupcich is a journalist and former TV news reporter with more than a decade in local news. She is not a longtime lead anchor at one station; she has mainly reported and filled in on the desk, and she has recently been back on air in Roanoke.

She was born in Venezuela, is a native Spanish speaker, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s journalism school. Her career path started in Lynchburg, Virginia, at WSET (ABC 13) as a web managing editor and weekend reporter.

Moved to Richmond: reporter at WRIC (ABC 8), then WTVR (CBS 6), including temporary traffic anchor on the morning show.

Joined WRAL-TV in Raleigh in 2017 as a reporter.

Also worked in other markets, including Phoenix.

Around 2022 she left daily TV news and wrote lifestyle, parenting, and wellness pieces for Yahoo Life and theSkimm.

She is married to Mitch Carr, evening anchor at WDBJ in Roanoke. In 2026 she has filled in on WDBJ’s morning show; industry notes suggested she might be joining the station. On social media she describes herself as a former TV reporter who still fill-in anchors from time to time.
