Smooth Moves: Radio Ads; Jim Martin Leaves KJR (1969)

October 17, 1969/Victor Stredicke– QUICK CHANGE — Jim Martin and KJR parted company this week. Air shifts for Lee Smith, Nick Anthony and Tom Murphy have been extended an hour each. KJR will operate with a six-person air staff rather than seven, Pat O’Day, station manager, said. Martin, most recently mid-day announcer, had worked in a number of time slots in the past 3½ years.

SKULL SESSION — A three-hour session for local advertising men was presented Wednesday by KOMO. The goal: How to prepare better radio commercials. Among the speakers were Mel Blanc and Bill Bell, Los Angeles ad whizes.
KOMO is already saturated with commercials. But in the future they may be entertaining.

READ AND WEEP — This memo, from the department in charge of commercials, is posted on a KOMO-Radio bulletin board:
To all announcers:
“Some of the Smythe commercials may sound a bit slow to you, but that’s the way it is. These commercials were originally recorded 17 years ago. They have lost a little something in the years since.”
“But then, so have all you fellows.”
