Weekend With Sinatra on KIRO 710

October 11, 1970/Victor Stredicke — Solid Sinatra at KIRO-AM beginning Friday. For 71 hours, Radio 71 will play Frank Sinatra and only Frank Sinatra.
L. D. Thomas, director of sales and promotion, said early hits, seldom-heard selections and specially recorded material would be included in the weekend-long salute.
Why Sinatra? “No other contemporary artist has had the lasting impact on adult musical tastes,” Thomas said. “Sinatra is the only artist in the country who could hold up to this kind of exposure.” Thomas said at least one new, unreleased record album would be premiered during the course of the program. Only the music will change. News, network programs and regularly scheduled features will be heard as usual during the KIRO weekend.

Spokane has its first 24-hour FM station in KEZE-FM (a revitalized KTWD). The “EZE” stands for “easy” listening. The station is a companion to KEZE AM, formerly KPEG, a daytime-only station.

KREM-FM, Spokane, has gone “underground” rock in evening hours, continuing KREM-AM simulcast during the daytimes. This is the second King Broadcasting Co. station to venture into hard rock.

A new musical format may be announced by KSND this week. And new call letters.
